The old forest — trees covered in moss, shaped and marked by time — stands as a quiet monument to endurance. These ancient guardians have been with us for centuries. In old Norwegian tradition, the great trees were called Yggdrasil, the world tree, a symbol of the deep connection between all living things. They have stood silently by our side, offering shelter from the storm, giving home to woodpeckers and squirrels. In their bark, a thousand small stories live on — the hidden worlds of insects, mosses, and lichen. The ancient forest is not only the tall spruce or pine, but also the old birch — gnarled and silver, growing high in the mountains or along quiet streams and lakes. What once covered much of the land now remains only in scattered, fragile places, some of them protected for the future. Within them thrives an immense diversity of life, seen and unseen, that depends on the presence of these old giants. To stand among them is to feel something timeless — the quiet strength of age, the flow of life that continues through all things. It is a humbling experience, to sense their energy and imagine all that they have witnessed.
